Knowing how to make money online seems so easy the way online marketers portray it. Admit it, everyone is fascinated by the idea of earning passive income from a website.
We’ve all read many stories of how regular folks like us, succeed in building a steady income stream. Then there are those who develop a simple digital product that meets with massive success overnight.
Regardless of what type of online product you choose to offer, it’s what’s behind the curtain that matters most. You must have a system in place that takes can convert a potential customer over time into a paying customer.
Your online success in generating passive income is directly dependent on how good your sales funnel runs. You can spend money all the money you want on online ads but if your marketing funnel doesn’t exist, you’re simply wasting money.
You also need a secure e-commerce system that is easy to navigate, confirms the purchase, delivers the product and then follows up with your customer afterward.
Here, we’ll be going over the process of setting up a functional sales funnel using GetResponse to accomplish everything mentioned above. There are a lot of steps involved with any sales funnel set up. A little preparation will save you a lot of time.
The Big Question
Most online entrepreneurs start out with the same main goal in mind…build up our traffic. Great, then what? What are you going to do with all that traffic?
It’s pretty obvious that driving traffic to your site is a critical first step. But before you spend a dime on online ads to accomplish this, think it through and plan ahead what you want to do with that traffic. The worst thing that can happen is they visit the site once and leave forevermore because you didn’t have a system in place to capture them. That’s an absolute travesty
The truth is that many beginners don’t think far enough down the road or better yet they see the beginning and the end. They don’t have a clear plan on how to get there or what to do with the traffic their working so hard to generate.
Work Smarter, Not Harder
What’s a Funnel?
A funnel is a series of stages or steps that take a site visitor all the way into a happy recurring customer. It takes care of everything in between. If you’ve spent any significant time online, I’m sure you’ve probably experienced funnels through online courses, online subscriptions, webinars, etc.
Funnels don’t need to be complicated. In fact, start out with something simple first and then you can slowly build on it down the road.
So, for instance, you can have one funnel for those visitors who have not purchased from you yet and another funnel for existing customers who have already made a purchase and you can then tell them about an upgrade or a related product that will enhance the first. See what I mean?
- An entry point: a link within a blog, an online opt-in form and/or a product link.
- A Lead Magnet: an enticement used to acquire emails.
- Landing Page & Thank You Page
- Automated Email Drip Campaign(s)
- E-Commerce Store
- Payment & Delivery System
- Confirmation & Follow-up Long-term Email Drip Campaign
Plan it Out
Decide what you want to promote using your sales funnel.
- Sell a product
- Build a list
- Promote a webinar
Decide on what type of product will you be offering? How much for each. Collect images for each product to use.
Choose A Sales Funnel
Here you have a few choices:
- Marketing Funnel: Build a list of contacts and convert them from visitor to customer.
- Sales Funnel: Lead people straight to your sales landing page.
- Follow-up Funnel: Nurture your existing customers with solid content and build repeat business by introducing new products or offering discounts and upgrades over time.
Create Your Store
Next step is to build your own storefront from within GetResponse OR connect to an existing store you already have in place.
You can automatically create a store using your store name and upload all of your listings there.
GetResponse can easily integrate with:
If you choose to set up a new store in GetResponse, you can easily add a products, identifying each product type, description and price. Types of products can be:
- A downloadable file (like an e-book)
- An online course (video training or email series)
- Service (web design, etc.)
- A physical product
You’ll also be able to upload a product image.
Next step in this process is to decide on delivery. How will you deliver the product to your customers? Here you have two options:
- copy them to a list that has your e-course
- redirect them to a URL that hosts your course. This URL will appear on their confirmation page.
There’s also a toggle button that will let you place each subscriber on an existing automated email campaign. You’ll want to stay in touch with each subscriber by delivering daily or weekly information that keeps them coming back to your site. Doing so dramatically increases the chances that they will buy from you again.
Next, you’ll need to choose a method of payment. You can integrate with the one you’ve already connected to. GetResponse does give you four main options such as:
You can also connect to another one, not on the list.
The Funnel Wizard
GetResponse then takes you to the Funnel Wizard which is a huge help in getting everything in place and making sure you don’t miss a step.
As you can see below, you start off by setting up or identify a system that’s designed to collect new subscribers, nurture them, promote your product/service, design an order form, Thank You page and Order Confirmation.
Then you easily instruct GetResponse autoresponder to send them over to your follow-up drip campaign for existing customers.
Like I said at the beginning, there’s a lot of planning ahead of time in order to create an effective funnel that will build your business in perpetuity. Do it right the first time and the rest is smooth sailing. Remember to continually build on it over time. This is how you generate passive income from sales funnels.
